Flex

Flex, a Brooklyn native, learned how to break from an early age. He started his training with WaAaK when he joined the El Puente after school program in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He continues his progression as a Bboy not only training with WaAaK, but now as a member of the Breaks Kru. Being one of the youngest members in the Kru, it’s difficult for him not to feel intimidated by the older and more experienced dancers around him. Instead of letting this become an obstacle he uses it as inspiration to train harder.

Flex also explores other forms of dance, because he believes the knowledge of different styles of will make his breaking stronger. He has taught several classes at El Puente where he was awarded for being “the best student-teacher.” Through El Puente, Flex has had several opportunities to perform with The Breaks Kru at organizational events including many “Three Kings” Holiday shows.

At an early age, Flex became a founding member of the “Evolution Crew”, which was co-founded and mentored by the Breaks Kru at the El Puente Beacon Program.

Flex’s list of accomplishments has already included being invited to the Stand Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota, for a Youth Wellness Conference to perform and help teach workshops. He was also featured in Alex Schein’s music video “Rise Up”.

Even though he feels he has done a lot throughout his young career he is optimistic about what the future holds for him, and “plans to be a fellow mentor to kids and leader of the Breaks Kru just how his mentor WaAak and Kom3 are”.  Through his continued efforts his hopes are “to get at least half of the wisdom the Kru has as a whole”.
