MykeToes grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut. While in high school, he found his love for Hip Hop through Skateboarding. On weekend nights Myke and his friends would hang out at schools to skate, play basketball, and listen to rap and hardcore music. It was there in ‘98 where he was first exposed to breaking by watching his older friends Bisc1, Ahn Vu and Rob Lotzko getting down on a piece of 8 x10 linoleum. Fascinated Myke found himself jumping onto the floor mimicking what he had seen his friends doing. It wasn’t long until he started learning the basic footwork steps from Rob while the Great Adventures of Slick Rick played constantly in the background. In 1999-2000 Myke discovered the Bridgeport breaking scene through his high school friends. Myke credits Manny (formally with the Fresh Phenz Crew and Problemz Kru) and Sweet Lou (of the United Outkasts) as key influences for helping him discover Bboying and meeting local dancers in the scene. Myke retired his Skateboard and started going to practices and jams to dance with his new crew of friends. Eventually this led him to met Spy, Mutt, Dubbs, Abbey Girl and Problem Child of Connecticut’s first internationally known all star team, The Problemz Kru. With the dance completely consuming Myke’s life, he escaped to NYC in 2001 to settle his appetite to learn more about the Bboy culture. Doing it all on his own, he decided to put himself through college, just so he could get a place to live in the city. While attending school for film and Video, MykeToes found people Bboying and street performing in Union Square. Utilizing his talents, he started dancing and performing With the streets attracting so many people with the same drive and love for the culture, Myke was introduced to Vic360 (Step Fiendz) and Reflex (Breaks Kru) around ‘03. Outside of work, Reflex and MykeToes started hanging out and traveling to different boroughs for practice spots. Eventually through Reflex and street performing with the Transformerz, Myke met more members of The Breaks Kru; Dirty, Chino, 2Sweet, Izzy and WaAak. After a summer of hitting with the Transformerz and Breaks Kru, MykeToes soon started practicing and hanging out at the Breaks Kru Loft. After many street performances, jams and parties; MykeToes got down with Breaks Kru in 2006. Through WaAaK he met his idol Ken Swift and the Seven Gems crew at Bboy Summit’06. After Summit he began working with the Seven Gems on their feature length documentary, “The Rock Super Dynamite Soul”. From then to ‘08 MykeToes has been practicing, learning and mentoring with the Seven Gems while he worked on the film. He took some time off from Bboying from ’08 into ’09 but now is back and training to get into |
